regretting that he is unable to help her, and saying that he "cannot approve the view that the promoters are open to bribes, or that they would allow themselves to be swayed by private influence", with on the verso in pencil the first side of a letter , in German with translation, from a woman to her husband, "It is Saturday and I am here at the Cobden all alone ... Cheer up ... and hope that perhaps tomorrow will be the last day that you spend in hospital", saying she has met "Mr Goodrick and his wife and your Matron", the main letter 1 side 8vo., Athenaeum Club, Pall Mall, 26th March, n.y., c.
