WILLIAM FREDERICK (2nd Duke of Gloucester, 1776-1834, Field Marshal, great-grandson of King George II and nephew and son-in-law of King George III)

Fine Autograph Letter Signed to 'My dear Lord', hastening to "return your Lordship my warmest thanks for your obliging letter and for the very valuable Work you have had the goodness to send me, which on every account must be truly gratifying to me to possess. I sensibly feel your kind attention in recollecting my wish to have the collection of private political correspondence, the originals of which you permitted me to read at Stowe, & in offering to you my best acknowledgements for these very interesting Papers I must request that your Lordship will retain them as long as Dr O'Conor remains that they can be useful to him in his present laborious undertaking ...", 2 sides 8vo., Gloucester House, 26th April

The Prince is not generally considered to have been interested in politics so this letter is interesting for the light it casts on his collecting interests.
