LUALDI (Maner, 1912-1968, Italian Aviator, journalist and Filmmaker)

First Day Cover Signed, the envelope shows the Italian and Norwegian flags and is captioned "Raid Artico Lualdi nel 25th Anniversario del Sacrificio di Roald Amundsen e dei Naufraghi del Dirigible 'Italia' 1953", it has two Italian stamps cancelled in Milan on the 4th March and Tromso on the 2nd May, it has the expedition stamp of a plane flying over an Arctic scene and Milan Cathedral, 6¾" x 5",

In 1953 Maner Lualdi and Max Peroli flew an Ambrosini Girfalco from Norway to a point in the 82nd parallel and back. Their turning point was the presumed region in which Amundsen died. This cover was flown by Lualdi to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Amundsen's death. The crew dropped flowers on to the ice and medals that had been blessed by the Pope
