Warrant Document signed by the members of the Council of State following "an order of his Highness the Lord Protector and the Counsell bearing date the 3rd of Aprill ... these are to will and require youi out of such moneys as are or shall come to yr hands for the use of yr Counsells Contingencyes to . pay to Mr John Embree Surveyor or his assigns the sum of One thousand pounds on accompt for the Charge of repayring Whitehall and other His Highnesses Houses ...", endorsed on the verso by John EMBREE (serjeant Plumber in 1639 and Surveyor General in succession to Edward Carter in January 1653 the same year the Cromwell was appointed Lord Protector), 1 side folio with endorsement on the verso, Whitehall, 6th April

John Embree was the only Master Plumber to hold the high office of Surveyor of the King's Works. His signature is rare.
