Peeress's Trial Ticket for Lady Clifford, signed 'Essex' for the sixteenth day of the Trial of Henry Dundas, Viscount Melville, printed on both sides, the ticket in sepia with a stern warning overprinted in black that "No Lady can claim Admission into the Seats called the Peeresses Seats by this Ticket, unless her Name is written on the Back thereof, on the Line denoting the State of her Claim", 2 sides 4to., no place, no date tear at opening of the seal slightly affecting the signature, repaired

Melville was the first Secretary of State for War and became, in 1806, the last person to be impeached in the United Kingdom, for misappropriation of public money. Although acquitted, he never held public office again.
