Menu for a Ball given to the Prince of Wales, by the Corporation of the City of London, in gorgeous red, gold and other colours, with Prince of Wales Feathers at the head and the arms of the City and the Lord Mayor, the Rt. Hon. Wm. James Richmond COTTON, (1822-1902, Conservative MP) and the Sheriffs, the banquet starts with Boar's Head which is followed by Salmon, Chicken, Capons, Beef, Lamb, French Pies, Lobster, Foie gras and many puddings, 1 side card 8" x 6", The Guildhall, London, 19th May

On 26th September 1875, Edward set off for India on an extensive eight-month tour; on the way, he visited Malta, Brindisi and Greece. He returned to England on 11th May 1876. At the end of the tour, Queen Victoria was given the title Empress of India by Parliament, in part as a result of the tour's success. This Ball would have been part of the welcome home celebrations.
