Had I seen you I should have mentioned that I was about to make a small addition to the Deputy Lieutenancy - will you allow me to insert your name as one of them ...", with a postscript that they had a "very good volunteer show here yesterday ...", 3 sides 8vo., Bowood headed paper, 25th September, no year but postmarked

Lansdowne was the son of Prime Minister William Petty, (1737-1805) 1st Marquess of Lansdowne (better known as the Earl of Shelburne). He succeeded his half brother John Henry Petty (1765-1809), 2nd Marquess.
