SIR JOSHUA'S SHOE BUCKLES AND SOME OF HIS LACE

A pair of George III silver and paste shoe buckles
together with of an Autograph Letter Signed from S. Palmer to Houstance sending him a pair of lace cuffs which had belonged to Sir Joshua "I will explain the appearance of the lace as you value the buckles of Sir Joshua you might care to possess the lace, which came to me as a pair of ruffles. Being rather useless in that form, I had them put in one lenghth, wh. can either be used as a tie, or twisted into a hat. I have done both ... It is 'old Rose Point' ... little memento of our celebrated ancestor" and continuing at length mainly about the family, also sending a manuscript "sketch of the Miltary services of General Guard" and a copy of the family tree showing his relationship to the artist, 7 sides 4to., 14 Kemps Close, 11th April
Provenance - by direct descent from the Palmer, Guard adn Lowthorpe families, Mary Palmer, née Reynolds was a sister of Sir Joshua. The collection passed from Sir Joshua's sister Mary Palmer to her daughter and on to the Lowthorpe family who sold them.
