ALICE (Princess, Countess of Athlone, 1883-1981, Daughter of Leopold, Duke of Albany, Grand-daughter of Queen Victoria, wife of Prince Alexander of Teck, Queen Mary's brother)

Fine Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs [Arnold] Royle thanking her for her "kind letter ... it is very dear of you remembering my birthday. I cannot say how I am looking forward to our return home at the end of April, this time I shall feel really at home & not have the thought of leaving Claremont for such ages always before my mind. Esher is changing so fast specially as regards its inhabitants that it will seem quite strange to us ... I am so glad Victoria is enjoying herself at Cairo, she hardly could help it I suppose, it is such a gay place; & now she can bring you news of Leo which is also very different to only hearing about him in letters. We had a grand old time in Berlin, a real good season, so that we were all dreadfully sorry to leave, & everybody was so exceedingly kind & full of regrets at our going, that it made one all the more sorry to wish them goodbye. Stuttgart is as charming as ever, & so bright & warm; we always have a good time here, & I am to say the least dreadfully spoilt. We go to the theatre nearly every night, & I ride every morning, & such lovely horses & different ones every day, which is a tremendous treat. Uncle & Aunt Waldeck with their four sweet children are here too. On Monday Auntie Bess with her husband arrives so we shall a very jolly party ...", 4 sides 8vo., on attractive paper headed with a vignette of Wilhelmspalast, Stuttgart, 2nd March
