Exceptional oval photo by Kavlak, Madrid, signed and dated, inscribed to Fernando León y CAS, Marqués del Muni (1842-1918, Spanish politician and a diplomat, Ambassador to France from 1887-1918) showing him standing next to a chair with his hand folded on the hilt of his sword, 9" x 6½" max in frame 15" x 10", no place,

Alfonso was a monarch from birth as his father, Alfonso XII, had died the previous year. Alfonso's mother, Maria Christina of Austria, served as regent until he assumed full powers on his sixteenth birthday in 1902. He married Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, the daughter of King Edward VII's youngest sister Princess Beatrice, and a granddaughter of Queen Victoria.
