THE FRENCH IMPERIAL FAMILY NAPOLEON III (Louis Napoleon Bonaparte, 1808-1873, Emperor of the French, Nephew of Napoleon I) with his son LOUIS (Eugene Jean Joseph, 1856-1879, Prince Imperial, killed while out with a reconnoitring party at Ulundi, Zululand)

Pair of Autograph Notes Signed, one from each, giving their autographs as requested, together with two fine unsigned albumen carte de visite photos, by W & D Downey, the Emperor half length seated in informal clothes with a sash, the Prince Imperial is half length seated, leaning on the back of a chair, 4¼" x 2½", mounted in gilt fillets, laid down together with their monograms in red and blue, the letters each 1 side 8vo., Camden Place, 5th April

Napoleon III was the first president of France (as Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte) from 1848 to 1852 and the emperor of the French from 1852 to 1870. A nephew of Napoleon I, he was the last monarch to reign over France. He died at Camden Place near Chiselhurst on 9th January 1873 so this is one of the last photos of him.
