LONG CHATTY LETTER FROM KIPLING SAYING THAT "OUR FEASTS ARE OF AN INDIGESTIBLE DULLNESS" KIPLING (Rudyard, 1865-1936, Novelist & Poet)

Long typed letter with autograph corrections and apologies for this typing, signed in full and with initials, to Mrs Sanders saying that he is not surprised that "after half a year in a Hotel, you were both glad and grateful to be home again ... We are back from a visit to Vichy --- the dullest spot on Earth --- where we helped our daughter to get through a fortnight's after-cure, with all the hotels shutting up every day all round us, till, when we left, we seemed to be the last persons in the whole town ... we got the only decent weather of the year ... the roads as perfect as the sunshine, and a most wonderful run into Paris ... it is all luck in France ... The rest of this season has been rain and gale which, in our valley translates itself into floods ... luckily we have not had any foot-and mouth disease in our beasts and all the herds are doing well and selling ... On the other hand (for Providence is just) our Foreman went and had appendicitis and an operation, and our Secretary went and got married ..." he then goes on about the problems with his dog's health "they do not quite understand the connection between medicaments and healing and they will eat the Boracic acid. But, otherwise, they are very dear and, in their reserved Scottish style, most companionable ... My articles on Brazil --- the very very little that I saw of it --- are to be published in the Morning Post next week ..." and they are to be translated into Portuguese, he thanks her for her "delightful account of your husband's 'banquet'. We lack that fine free and easy spirit here, and our feasts are of an indigestible dullness. And now we have got to go up to Town with almost the certainty of a real reeking London fog in wait for us ...", 2 sides A4 with an autograph postscript signed with initials listing some titles with comments, Bateman's, 20th November small hole neatly repaired, text easily supplied
