RUSKINS DISCOVERS A LOST SKETCHBOOK OF J.M.W. TURNER'S RUSKIN (John, 1819-1900, Writer and Critic)

Autograph Letter Signed 'J. Ruskin' to an unnamed correspondent "My dear Sir" saying that his "sketchbooks is safe here, and is without question Turner's, and of singular interest. May I come to see you about two o'clock next Tuesday and would you kindly in giving me permission - or offering any other time in the day, tell me how most easily to find your street, as I don't know the north of London ...", 1 side 8vo., "Arthur Severns, Herne Hill", 7th March

His last great work was his autobiography, Praeterita (1885–89), meaning, 'Of Past Things', was a highly personalised, selective, eloquent but incomplete account of aspects of his life, the preface of which was written in his childhood nursery at Herne Hill. Possibly that is why he was her at this time.
Arthur SEVERN (1842-1931) was a watercolour painter. He was the son of Elizabeth and Joseph Severn, the painter and friend of John Keats. His wife Joan SEVERN (née Agnew, 1846-1924, cousin and heir of Ruskin). The Severns lived with Ruskin at Brantwood at the end of his life and looked after him.
