THE CRAZY GANG
ALBUM

Autograph album, compiled by R. Blundell of Maidstone, highly evocative of the days just before the war, with its concert parties (the Crazy Gang, all six signatures), Flanagan & Allen, Nervo & Knox, Naughton & Gold, Jack Shephard's Entertainers, whose summer show at Brighton was broadcast on 7th July 1938, Cardi the TV conjuror, broadcasters who went the rounds of talks and visits - a chance to get their signatures, such as the director and technical officer of the East Malling Research Station, the M.P. Vernon Bartlett, organists Thorne, Dixon and Cleaver, classical disc jockey Christopher Stone, and broadcasting clergy. C.H. Middleton, the radio gardener, writes "Sorry and all that, but my house was bombed", others early in the war include Jean de Casalis, visiting Maidstone for "War Weapons Week", 1940. There is also a telling newspaper photo showing King George VI with Churchill and the ministers of the many governments in exile in London, represented in the album by the signatures of the Polish Ambassador, and the Greek, Netherlands and Belgian ministers. Most are with notes of the occasion and a newspaper or postcard portrait photo, blue hard covers, 54 sides 5¼" x 7¼", 1938 - a few leaves loose in place, inner hinges gone but stitching firm
