Autograph Letter Signed 'Christine & John' in her hand, to Mrs Winifred Arnold of Little Baddow, near Chelmsford, asking "what little bird told you about our Golden Wedding? ... You can imagine the pleasure of unwrapping layer after layer ... to find the treasures inside! The Gold Coins inside the glasses, - which as it happens we are very short of ... Liqueur Chocolates ... John cannot bear sticky jam pots, I always decant ... into a pretty pot like yours", she had no idea "your eyes were so bad ... difficult for chores ... I am trying to write this letter in a large hand", she continues "What a shame about the R.A. John was on the Selection Committee this year ... more pictures than ever sent in & fewer than ever accepted. I feel terribly guilty about you as you wanted me to try & help on the exhibition before & I could not see my way to doing any thing ... Would I be right in saying in my note that you took up painting 'at a mature age'? You always seemed so active & youthful in your outlook! Shingles are bad enough", he wonders "what you will do now that you have sold your house. I go to Flatford for the Plant Drawing Course this July after an absence of 3 years" where he hopes to see "one or two of the 'old gang' ...
