(Viscount of Alamein, Bernard Law, 1887-1976, Field Marshal)
Fine Autograph Letter Signed “Monty” to “My dear Walter”
Sir Walter MONCKTON (1st Viscount Brenchley, Walter Turner, 1891-1965, Director of Midland Bank Ltd.) regretting that he “cannot lend you a hand when you take your seat in the Lords. I am coming over this next weekend to stay with Winston, but I have to return here on Monday 1st April and will not be in England again till towards the end of April. So you must do without me. I am sure there are plenty of others who will lend a hand just as well. I might have introduced a little military discipline and drill into the ceremony - which, in fact, is rather necessary!!...”, 2 sides 4to., Trianon Palace Hotel, France, 26th March
