acknowledging receipt of his "two papers, and to say my earliest leisure shall be given to an attentive perusal of them. The subjects are good and a portion of such matter much be daily administered. You shall hear at greater length from me within a day or two. I am having a long promised visit to some friends who insist on finding amusement for very hour in the day, and you know what labour and emotional slavery this imposes, but one is obliged to submit with as good a grace as possible. I am not very particular as to my intention being kept private so you may communicate to whom you please and if you meet with any liberal genius who is willing to to aid our cause ... perhaps you will enlist them ...", 4 sides 8vo., 3 Brunswick Square, Bristol, Tuesday, no date

(wife of Dennis WHEATLEY, 1897-1977, Novelist) asking her to “consider giving a little support to the ‘Christmas Tree’ Ball, of which I am Chairman, and which takes place at the Dorchester Hotel... in aid of St. Peter’s Hospital... I know how often you must be asked to help with these charity efforts, but if you can bring a little party, or just take even two tickets, I should be more than grateful. St. Peter’s Hospital is a hospital for men suffering from stone and other kidney diseases. The surgery and treatment are all splendid, but the Hospital is crippled for want of funds, which are most urgently needed for its enlargement and, of course, for the maintenance of the up-to-date operating theatre and X-ray department.
