DEVONSHIRE
(Spencer Compton Cavendish, 1833-1908, from 1858 Lord Hartington, from 1891 8th Duke of)
Long Autograph Letter Signed ‘Devonshire’ to Sir Frederick YOUNG
(1817-1913, Traveller and writer on Imperial Affairs), apologising for his late reply “in consequence of many engagements since my return to town, I have only recently heard that it may be necessary for me to go to the Riviera in attendance on the Queen during a part of her stay there. The arrangements for the Ministers in attendance on Her Majesty are not yet made & can hardly be finally... till more is known as to business in Parliament, but I think it is extremely likely that I may have to be abroad during the latter half of March. Under these circumstances I fear that it would be impossible for me to make an engagement for the 30th March or any date about that time...” 1 side 8vo., Devonshire House, Piccadilly, 24th January
