MOUNTBATTEN-41343-1.jpg A SOUVENIR OF "NIGHT ATTACK 'ASDEAN' 20TH DECEMBER 1926"
MOUNTBATTEN (Earl Louis, of Burma, 1900-1979, Admiral of the Fleet, Victoria's Great Grandson)

Typed Letter Signed to Miss Jupp with autograph salutation and subscription thanking her for her letter which "brings back many memories. On the 20th December 1926, I was up in London but when I got back on the 23rd, I had a discussion with my Head Keeper, Longman, who gave me a vivid account of the battle of the poachers. He called the police. They rounded up and caught all three poachers but Police Constables Akehurst and Chandler were injured and went to hospital. On the 25th I visited them in hospital and brought them fruit, flowers and a gift and wished them a happy Christmas. So you may certainly add in 'Presented by Lord Louis Mountbatten (which was my name in those days). If you have any further details that your uncle gave you of the 'night attack' I should be interested to have them to put in my Archives. Your uncle was certainly very brave and gallant ...", 1 side 4to., Broadlands, Romsey, Hampshire headed paper, 15th March 1979 together with the gift which is a Fine Silver cigarette box with a gold crest in the corner, inscribed "Night Attack 'Adsdean' 20th December 1926. Albert Samuel Akehurst, presented by Lord Louis Mountbatten", the sterling silver cigarette box is hallmarked Adie Brothers Ltd 1922,
