Commission Document on vellum, signed 'Atholl',
with his armorial seal, to James Hay of Seggieden (1777-1838), appointing him "Lieutenant Colonel Commandant in the Eastern Regiment of Royal Perthshire Local Militia ... carefully and diligently to discharge" the said Commission, Hay is "to observe and obey" all orders received from time to time "from your Superior Officers, according to Law, and Articles of War", title on verso, attractively printed by Oliver & Boyd of Edinburgh with manuscript additions, 10¾" x 14¾", no place, 15th June
The Duke was Lord Lieutenant from 1794, and Colonel of the Perthshire Militia from 1798. James Hay's grandchild and eventual heiress married a grandson of the Duke's.
