Galeffi, renowned for his leading roles in Verdi, sang at La Scala, 1912-1938. Brownlee was at the Paris Opéra, 1926-1933, and at the 'Met' 1937-1956. Thereafter he was Director at the Manhattan School of Music, 1956-1958, and its President from 1958. Pizzetti taught at the Sta. Cecilia Academy, Rome, 1936-1958, President 1947-1952. His operas include 'Fra Gherardo' (1925-1927) and a highly acclaimed version of Eliot's 'Murder in the Cathedral' (1958).
