MARIANA OF AUSTRIA (1634-1696) Queen Consort of Spain 1649-65, second wife of King Philip IV, Mother of Charles II)

Clerk Written Document in Spanish, signed with a stamped signature ´Yo La Reyna´, addressed to Don Rodrigo de Borja Lanzol, Captain General in Mallorca, the Queen refers to previous letters reporting on approving a contract to rent the ten per cent Kingdom right, and states that "According to the different proposals received from various business men of that Kingdom, and to the Supreme Council advice, I have decided to leave this matter for now and do not rent such rights ...", 1 side folio with fine papered seal, Madrid, 16th January

Mariana was Queen of Spain from 1649 until her husband and uncle, Philip IV, died in 1665. She was then appointed regent for their three-year-old son Charles II, and due to his ill health remained an influential figure until her own death in 1696.

Spectable Don Rodrigo de Borja Lanzol mi lugarteniente y capitán general. Hace recivido v'ra carta de G. del passado, en respuesta de lo que mandé escribiros en 16 de Octubre, sobre arrendarse el derecho del 10 por 100. Y habiéndose visto en este mi cons.o sup.mo y el papel que remitis de diferentes capítulos y condiciones, con que ofrecen hombres de negocios desse reyno entrar en este arrendamiento. Ha parecido responderos, que no conviene que se arriende este derecho por aora. Se que he querido advertiros para que lo tengáis entendido. Datt. M Madrid a xvi de Henero M.DC.LXVY

The Governor Queen
Respectful Don Rodrigo de Borja Lanzol my lieutenant and captain general. I have received your letter from the past G. in response to what I ask you to write on October 16, about renting the right of the 10 per 100. And having seen on this supreme council and the paper you sent with different chapters and conditions that offer men of business from that kingdom about entering to this renting. It seems to reply to you, that it is not convenient to rent this right for now. I wanted to advise you so you can be warned. Dated M Madrid 16 January 1666
