Rolls-Royce was established in 1904 from his original motor car business of C. S. Rolls which he started in 1902. He was an ardent aeronaut and aviator who did a double crossing of the Channel in 1910. He was killed in a plane crash at Bournemouth in 1910 the same year as this achievement. He was the first English victim of Aviation.
