Fine pair of unmatched photos, signed "George" and "Victoria Mary" with the place and date the Duke of York is an original photo showing him three quarters length in full uniform with his hat on the table next to him and his hand on the hilt of his sword, 8" x 6", the Duchess is standing, in semi-profile, leaning on a pillar, wearing an embroidered dress with pearls and a tiara, 6" x 4", in matching mounts with hand written titles "H.R.H. The Duke of York To Midn. E. C. Boyle, R.N., H.M.S. Renown, Malta - 1901" and the same from H.R.H. The Duchess, 11½" x 8½", Malta,

Edward Courtney BOYLE(1883-1967, Rear Admiral, received the Victoria Cross in the First World War). At the time of the 1901 Census he was listed as a Midshipman serving in the 12,350 ton Twin Screw Battle Ship HMS Renown – the Flag Ship on the North America and West Indies Station.
In 1901, George and May toured the British Empire. Their tour included Gibraltar, Malta, Port Said, Aden, Ceylon, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Mauritius, South Africa, Canada, and the Colony of Newfoundland. The tour was designed by Colonial Secretary Joseph Chamberlain with the support of Prime Minister Lord Salisbury to reward the Dominions for their participation in the South African War of 1899–1902. They travelled in R.M.S. Ophir with a naval escort.
