ALEXANDRA (of Denmark, 1844-1925, Queen of Edward VII)

Fine long Autograph Letter Signed to "My dear Mary" saying that she was "so touched by yr kind letter accompanied by that precious ring left me by yr beloved mother - how well I remember it on her dear finger & how I admired it. When she ... said Oh I shall leave it you in my Will - little did we think how soon her words came true. I cannot tell you how deeply I always regretted her ... ill health, believe me we did so love each other - The last time I saw here in her ... little House at Kew with her sister ... She seemed very feeble & to me who always knew her so bright & cheery it was very sad to see her in that sad low state. My one hope now is that she cannot have suffered much at the end ... she seemed happy among her dear ... nurses - who took such care of their precious charge - I do feel so much for you her dear children who must miss her so sadly. I saw yr dear brother a little while ago when he gave me all the last sad account ... we all share our grief ... I do hope that you & yrs are well in Ireland, poor dear Ireland which has so many worries & troubles to go through just now ...", ending with renewed thanks for the ring, 7 sides on mourning paper, Marlborough House, 4th June traces of guard on left hand edge not affecting the text
