Fine Autograph Letter Signed in French with translation, to an unnamed correspondent saying that he comes "to disturb you again, Sir, with a very indiscreet request. Humboldt was one of the greatest scientists of the first half of the 19th century, and a pioneer in many fields, including the climate and ecology. From 1830 he was employed by Friedrich Wilhelm III as a special envoy to France, frequently travelling between Paris and Berlin.
Translation
I come to disturb you again, Sir, with a very indiscreet request. Would you be so kind as to allow a young compatriot who has been sent by the King of Saxony to study here at the École des Mines, Mr. Alex, to take advantage of the Institute's library from time to time. Your Devoted, Humboldt.
