lacks heading, Dalton's endorsement defective at beginnings of lines (easily supplied), instruction at foot of recto trimmed
Russell was one of the seven who in June 1688 signed the invitation to the Prince of Orange to become King. For the Battle of Barfleur and St. Vaast-la-Hougue (1692), in which Russell defeated the last great fleet to attempt an invasion of England, to replace James II on the throne, see e.g. Nigel Calder, 'The English Channel', pp. 102-105.
With Russell's signature in which the E and R overlap. See e.g. BL MSS Add. 38848, f. 111. Endorsed by him for payment to Richard Dalton, and by the latter to Lady Priscilla Rolle, 1st September 1691.
