Benjamin B. Hyer (1870-1937, U.S. Army Colonel) joined the 6th U.S. Cavalry from West Point. He served three times in the Philippines and in Mexico under Pershing. As a 1st Lieutenant he served at Tientsin and Peking in the China Relief Expedition on General Chaffee's personal staff, as acting ADC. While there he led a charge of 60 cavalry to rout several hundred Boxers, and was one of a select group to parade in the Forbidden City. For a time he was Professor of Military Science and Tactics at Wentworth Military Academy, Lexington, Missouri, and in 1921 graduated from the General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
