HAAG (Carl, 1820-1905, R.W.S., Court Painter to the Duke of Saxe-Coburg Gotha)

Autograph Letter Signed to 'Dear Mr Spielmann', in his pleasant hand, saying he "shall probably be from town on May 6th" and so "unable to join your party at the festival dinner of the Artists' Gen[era]l Benevolent Inst[itution]", but Spielmann is "welcome to enter my name ... with my usual donation of 5 G[uinea]s", and wishing him "a very successful Stewards list", 1 side 7½" x 6", Ida Villa, Lyndhurst Road, Hampstead, N.W., 24th February worn at two corners and in central fold beginning to split without loss, yet making an attractive 'picture' of the writing

Haag travelled widely, lived as a Bedouin, and painted scenes in Jerusalem hitherto barred to pilgrims. He contributed 4 engravings to 'Leaves from the Journal of Our Life in the Highlands'.
