DOYLE
(John, 1797-1868, Painter and Printmaker)
Autograph letter signed to Sir James Emerson Tennent
(1804-1869, Traveller, Politician & Author), explaining that he has just accepted an invitation "to go into Warwickshire, on Saturday, for a few days - feeling, though greatly better ... that I require a little change of air to complete the cure", he talks of "Dick's experiment" (son Richard, 1824-1883, Punch artist 1843-1850), of an auction, "The more trifling subjects sold quite as well as was expected", the more valuable in general failing to reach their reserve, "But in truth very few who take an interest in his works knew anything about the sale, Dick himself having carefully abstained from using the slightest interest. I hope he will make another trial next season", he postpones any more "till we can have our confidential chat together", 4 sides 7¼" x 4½", 17 C. T., 2nd June no year, c.
