Background
The Tecks were of the Royal Family of Württemberg, but by a morganatic marriage. Queen Victoria thought this no disadvantage and Francis, 1st Duke, married the Queen's cousin, Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge (1833-1897). They exchanged their German title for Cambridge in 1917, Francis' son Adolphus becoming the 1st Marquess.
