ARUNDEL CASTLE PAGEANT, 1923

Collection of Postcard Photographs by J. White & Son,
showing the huge cast at the foot of the Castle walls, and groups of performers in Henry VIII and Elizabethan dress, including Violet, Lady Beaumont as Queen Elizabeth, Lady Rachel, Lady Katherine and Lady Winifred Howard, one post card has been addressed to the pianist Mathilde Verne, (1865-1936, writer) asks Can you spot Mrs. Bredt, (Mathilde's sister Alice, 1868- 1958), standing in front of the... orchestra on the left? She has a guitar in her hand, & is sort of conducting with it, the writer points out the pavilion (called by the company variously the Punch and Judy Show or the Ice-Cream Barrow), another bears on the back Four of your most devoted (Three & the fraud)... So glad the Pavane is being published... Annie tells me that you've given Lady Beaumont a lovely M.S. of it, other photos of court ladies, musicians, monks and peasants, in all 15 plus 2 duplicates or near duplicates, with individual photo of Mrs. Bredt and her guitar, and another of her in a group (2 copies), the last three block-mounted, together with the Pavan: Tune Composed by Henry VIII arranged for Strings & Oboe by Alice Verne Bredt, Manuscript Full Score on six staves, 32 sides oblong 8vo., Arundel, Sussex, August
