(Robert, of Elderslie)
Autograph Letter Signed to Alfred Ellis,
(1821-1879, second son of John Ellis, Chairman of the Midland Railway), of Belgrave, Leicestershire, regretting that the 'Wallace Oak'... was blown down during the tremendous storm... on the evening & morning of 6th & 7th of February 1856... It had long been in a dying state - for a number of years it had had very little foliage, the writer was anxious to have had some of it budded or grafted, but delayed till too late... I think... there is some of its progeny on the estate, 2 sides, Elderslie House, Renfrewshire, 12th October
