Background
Jackson had himself been a headmaster in Islington. He had the mind of a lawyer and was a thorough man of business. By creating the diocese of St. Albans and rearranging Rochester and Winchester, Jackson made the diocese of London more workable, and he later appointed a suffragan for East London.
