Background
Nilsson's voice was brilliant, though not powerful, and perfectly even over 2½ octaves up to top E. She made her début as Violetta, and excelled also as Ophelia, Marguérite and Mignon. Her first husband (1872) was Auguste Rouzaud (d. 1882), and her second (1887) Don Ángel Vallejo y Miranda (d. 1902), Count of Casa Miranda. They spent the winters at their Château Vallaya at Menton, 1910-1914.
