Autograph Letter Signed to Admiral Sir Richard Thomas
(1777-1857, C-in-C Pacific 1841-1844), about the probable time of my arrival... the increased force which France & America have upon the station induced the Government to apportion one of the few Ships of the line kept in Commission to that part of the world... I hoisted my flag in [Collingwood] yesterday, and looks forward to having the benefit of... your experience and knowledge... Lady Seymour has determined on accompanying me with our family, he anticipates having to go, as Thomas did the previous year, to the Northern parts, even if Lady Seymour prefers to stay in Valparaiso, with Dublin & Vindictive coming home, and Collingwood and America arriving, there will be a heavy demand for stores, the Prince de Joinville has made some sensation by a hostile pamphlet to Gt. Britain about the future application of Steam Force which his father, Louis Philippe I, will not much approve of, he has agreed to keep Col. Robinson's son in the Pacific... provided you approve of his transfer from the Dublin to the Collingwood or other ship with a vacancy for a Mid, note by Thomas at head Re[ceive]d at Callao [the port of Lima] 25 Oct 1844, 4 sides 4to., 26th May
