Sendall was a fine classical scholar and at this time British High Commissioner of Cyprus.Charles Fossey, 1869-1946, went out to Athens in 1894. He studied inscriptions and excavations in Syria, then returned to France in 1899 to lecture on Babylonian religion. He wrote valuable works on Assyriology and was an expert on oriental typefaces.
