Background
Wilhelm Ganz was Jenny Lind's accompanist on a tour of England and Scotland in 1856, having settled permanently in London in 1850. Ganz succeeded to the management of Henry Wylde's 'New Philharmonic Society' in 1879, and renamed it 'Mr Ganz' Orchestral Concerts'. He gave Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique and Liszt's Dante Symphony for the first time in London in their entirety. He wrote 'Qui Vive', a favourite drawing room galop for four hands, still popular.
