(Sir William, 1835-1911, Conservative M.P. and outspoken Judge)
Autograph Letter Signed to Mr Kelly,
thanking him for his sympathy, and saying that if Kelly's father had been in the House of Commons he would have protested agst the dishonesty of covering the defeat and disgrace of a party for bringing false charges in allowing the character of the person falsely accused to be trampled on, 3 sides 8vo, The Castle, Durham, 15th July
In 1906 Sir William was on the panel trying election petitions, and gave three verdicts in favour of the Conservatives. On 6th July the Commons were asked by an Irish member to take into consideration his alleged anti-Liberal bias, particularly over Great Yarmouth, but Campbell-Bannerman persuaded the House to decline to act. Asquith revived the matter on 7th February 1911 with a severe rebuke to Sir William in the House.
