Background
With his father Lord Crawford built an observatory at Dunecht, Aberdeenshire, which he presented, together with a valuable collection of books, to the New Royal Observatory at Blackford Hill, Edinburgh, in 1888. In London he shared a party wall with Messrs Boosey.
