(William, 1809-1859, W.S., Scottish Professor of Rhetoric)
Autograph Letter Signed to the Anglo-Saxon scholar Benjamin Thorpe, F.S.A., 1782-1870,
saying that in the midst of the worry and hurry of classifying the exercises of pupils... for the close of our winter's work he rejoices at Thorpe's news about the Chronicle. We shall have one at least of our most valuable monuments resuscitated worthily by worthy hands and native ones... I... congratulate... all who are interested in the early history and language of the nation, and offering my best thanks to Mrs Thorpe for her acceptable present of seeds, 2 sides 8vo., St. Andrews, 15th April
