Background
In 1611 Pégon came as a postulant to the Grande Chartreuse, but Dom Bruno d'Affringues refused to admit him as neither sufficiently learned nor robust. He suggested the Chartreuse of Beaune, scarcely risen from ruin in the wars of religion, and anxious for members. Thirty eight years later Pégon, having passed through all the offices of his Order, returned as General, dying at 85, the oldest Carthusian of his time. He is still remembered for repairing and embellishing the Church and buildings, and for the little retreat 8 foot square he built at Tenaison, where he retired for several days each year.
