ALEXANDRA
(of Denmark, 1844-1925, Queen of Edward VII)
Fine cabinet photo by Downey signed
showing the Princess full length, standing with her elbow resting on a large piece of furniture, with her other hand in her pocket, 6 x 4 in fine frame covered in embroidery, which is said to have been made by the Princess, with a note on the verso by W. Stirling that the picture was Given to me by Queen Alexandra when I was a little girl. Queen Victoria would not allow it to be published as the Princess (as she then was) has her hand in her pocket and the Queen considered this vulgar, so the photograph could only be given privately, to friends, no place, no date
