Background
In 1913 the couple had got engaged and married. The Kaiser reinstated Ernst August as Duke of Brunswick. The wedding was the last great gathering of European royalty before WWI. In WWII the Duke and Duchess were indefatigable in hospital work. Many of the soldiers are holding bunches of flowers which apparently indicates that they are ready to return to the front.
