Background
Queen Sophie was the third daughter of Emperor Friedrich Wilhelm III, and Victoria, Empress Frederick. She was a grand-daughter of Queen Victoria and married Constantine on the 27th October 1889. Constantine abdicated for the second time in favour of his son George in September 1922 and spent the last months of his life in exile in Italy. He died in January 1923 in Palermo.
