Background
This chair came from the Sidmouth family and would probably have been used by Gladys Mary, the wife of Raymond Anthony Addington, (1887-1976) 6th Viscount Sidmouth, as the remains of the tag appear to say ary Sidmouth. W. Hands and Sons Ltd., a furniture make in High Wycombe were commissioned to make the chairs for Peers and Peeresses. The blue velvet upholstery was made at Listers Mills in Bradford, Yorshire. After the ceremony those who had occupied the chairs were given the opportunity to buy them.
