Andrei Vladimirovich married the great Russian ballerina Matilda Kschessinska, (1872-1971), in 1921, who had been for a while the mistress of Nicholas II. Slava was the son of her brother, the actor Joseph Kschessinsky, 1868-1942, who stayed in Russia. Slava's mother was another famous ballerina, Serafima Alexandrovna Astafieva, 1876-1934. She opened her school at 152 Kings Road, Chelsea, in 1916, and her son married Margot Luck, one of her pupils.
