You will be sorry to hear your Aunt Sophy has been very ill with a cold & fever since you left her & kept her bed nearly all the time of your absence, but she is much better these last two days & was up some hours yesterday & is stronger today and looking forward with great pleasure to seeing you all again. As I shall hope to see you vr soon I will only add that A am you aff Aunt, 3 sides 8vo., no place, 26th September no year,
Item Date: 1849
Background
Aunt Sophy doubtless refers to Princess SOPHIA (1777-1848), Mary's next younger sister. The letter is almost certainly addressed to her niece Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge (1833-1897) daughter of her brother Prince Adolphus, 1st Duke of Cambridge, a granddaughter of George III and mother of Queen Mary, great-grandmother of Elizabeth II.
