(born 1877, Author) saying that his friend James Stephens (1880-1950, Irish Novelist and Poet) who has been staying near us, lent me yr 'Flowers & elephants'. It is one of the rare books wh. show an understanding of India, with its touching beauty and sordidness. A lovely book all through, flower-like & fragrant. I wonder, for I see it appeared in 1928, no one had put info into my hands, for India is a subject near my heart. I admired Forster's 'passage'..., (E. M., 1879-1970, Author of 'A Passage to India'), but wrote him at the time that he had missed the beauty of India. James Stephens has an unusual feeling for its poetry. He is to broadcast on Indian poets next week...
