Autograph Letter Signed to Mr Wood
saying he has received your dainty Book of English Verse on Infancy & Childhood. I am sure I shall find much to enjoy & appreciate in it. I am a bad reader of poetry... but rather tends to make books of selections... I hope that the Oxford visit has proved in every way delightful & a success this year..., 1 side 8vo., New College, Oxford, 26th July
Item Date: 1921
Background
The recipient is the Cambridge-educated author L. S. Wood (1878-1947), and the book he sent to Spooner is A Book of English Verse on Infancy and Childhood (1921). Wood’s first name is Leonard, and his middle name can be spelled as Southerden or Sutherden, but he seems often to have gone by simply “L. S. Wood.”
